- No sign-up. We never ask for your name, email, contacts, photos or your real location.
- Your pet's location is simulated; it is not where you are.
- Step counts and microphone volume stay on your phone. Nothing is recorded.
- The optional Friends feature stores your pet's profile on our server under a random ID. You can delete it anytime in the app.
- Rewarded ads are provided by Google AdMob. Ads are only shown if you choose to watch one.
1Who we are
This Privacy Policy applies to the Tamatabi (たま旅) app for iPhone and its widget (the "App"), provided by Starwalk (Shanghai) Network Technology Ltd ("StarWalk Technology", "we", "us"). We are responsible for the personal information processed through the App as described here.
2What we collect
2.1 Information that stays on your device
- Your pet's world: your pet, its journey, diary, souvenirs, coins and settings are saved on your device (shared with the Tamatabi widget through an App Group).
- Step count (Motion & Fitness permission): read on your device to award in-app coins. Step data is not uploaded.
- Microphone: only when you tap "Blow", the App reads the sound level for a few seconds. Nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded.
The App does not request access to your location, camera, photos, contacts or notifications, and does not require an account.
2.2 Information sent to our servers to run features
- Pet travel data: to plan your pet's trip and show maps, street-level views, routes, local facts, nearby radio stations and souvenirs, the App sends your pet's simulated coordinates, city, country and language setting. These coordinates describe where your pet is in its virtual journey, not where you are.
- AI features: to decide what your pet does next and to write its daily diary and letters, the App sends your pet's name, species, personality, mood and situation, and recent diary lines. If you write notes to your pet, the text of those notes is sent so that your pet can reply in its letter. Please do not include personal information in your notes.
2.3 Friends feature (optional, off by default)
If you turn on Friends, the App creates a random player ID and secret on your device (no email or account). Our server then stores:
- your player ID, friend code and the time you were last active;
- your pet's public profile: name, character, mood, activity, the simulated city/country/coordinates where your pet is, and days travelled (updated at most once every 10 minutes while you use the App);
- friend requests, friend lists, blocks and reports you make;
- gifts and postcards you send or receive, including the message (up to 140 characters) and place name;
- favourites you save, if you use favourites sync.
Friends can see your pet's profile and the gifts and postcards you send them.
2.4 Technical data
Like any internet service, our hosting providers automatically process technical data such as IP address, request time and error logs in order to deliver and secure the service. The App does not include analytics or crash-reporting SDKs.
3How we use information
- To provide the App's features: travel simulation, AI-generated diaries and letters, maps and views, souvenirs, radio and friends.
- To keep the service safe: preventing abuse, handling reports and blocks, and fixing errors.
- To show rewarded ads when you choose to watch one (see section 5).
- To comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use the content you write to build advertising profiles. Depending on where you live, our legal bases are the performance of our contract with you (providing the App), our legitimate interests (security and improvement), your consent (for example, App Tracking Transparency), and legal obligations.
4Service providers
We use the following providers to run the App. They process data on our behalf or provide content under their own terms:

Souvenir items may be shown with affiliate links (marked "Ad"). If you open one, you leave the App and the shop's own privacy policy applies; we may earn a commission. Links to Spotify or other sites are governed by those sites' policies.
5Advertising
The App offers optional rewarded ads through Google AdMob. AdMob may collect your device's advertising identifier (IDFA, only if you allow tracking), IP address, device information and ad interaction data to deliver and measure ads, and to personalise them where permitted.
iOS will ask whether you allow tracking (App Tracking Transparency). You can say no, and you can change this anytime in Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. All features work the same either way. Learn more in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.
6When we share information
We share information only with the providers above, with your friends as part of the Friends feature, when required by law or to protect rights and safety, or as part of a merger or business transfer (in which case this policy will continue to protect your information).
7International transfers
Our servers and providers are located in countries including the United States, Japan and others, which may differ from your country. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as contractual protections) for these transfers, including in accordance with Japan's Act on the Protection of Personal Information.
8Retention and deletion
- Data on your device stays there until you reset your pet or delete the App.
- Friends data stays on our server while you use the feature. Go to Profile › Player social › Delete my social data to permanently delete your player record, pet profile, friends, requests, gifts, postcards, blocks, reports and synced favourites from our database.
- Deleting the App does not delete server data. Please use "Delete my social data" first, or contact us.
- Requests processed by AI providers are handled to generate a response and are retained by those providers only as their terms allow. Server logs are kept for a limited period by our hosting providers.
9Your rights
Depending on where you live (for example under Japan's APPI, the EU/UK GDPR, California's CCPA/CPRA or China's PIPL), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or export your personal information, to object to or restrict processing, and to withdraw consent. Because the App has no accounts, the quickest way to delete server data is "Delete my social data" in the App. For any other request, contact us (section 13). Include your friend code so we can find your data. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.
10Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.
11Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS). Player secrets are stored on our server only in hashed form. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and limit what we collect.
12Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the App changes. We will post the new version on this page with a new date and, for significant changes, notify you in the App.
